This summary is Amazing Stories’ ten thousandth post.
Some of our posts are long, some are short.
Some are personal, some are general.
Some are important, some are interesting.
Some are fluff. Some are apocalyptic.
All represent the interests, concerns, passions, creativity, yearnings, experiences and adventures of science fiction fandom.
Broken down by category, here’s what we’ve brought you over the past 6-7 years:
science fiction 2,265
uncategorized (catchall) 478
world content (catchall) 224
(There’s overlap, so the totals won’t add up. And we revamped all of the categories about 6 months ago which no doubt affected things but I can’t detail how.)
My original instructions to would-be bloggers for the site was to “write about what you are passionate about, because Fandom is all about passion, and the author’s enthusiasm will transmit to the reader”. I believe that most of our contributors achieved that goal.
Beyond the posts, there’s an awful lot on the website and I’ll take this moment to remind you all of the various features many of you are not taking advantage of.
First, there’s our calendar of events.
It’s comprehensive, it’s open source and it is informative, but, seemingly like every other such feature that’s been provided to events, it is not being taken advantage of. If you are working on a convention, a reading, a workshop, please consider adding it to the calendar.
Then there’s our store.
Magazines, anthologies, Amazing Selects novellas, posters, t-shirts, coffee mugs and more. (Hint: if you pick up our store offerings, it helps us purchase stories and artwork.)
Don’t forget the Podcast (in hiatus now but a wealth of episodes to enjoy!) The Gernsback Machine
What you also may not be familiar with is the wealth of information available under the INFO tab: There’s the staff pages that link to all of the individual author pages for contributors to the site; there’s the links page that will bring you to various contributor’s websites, blogs and social networking sites and there’s the Library (A-I, J-Sa, Se-Z) displaying up to ten individual works (with links) for all of our contributors. (Take a walk through the library, you’ll find an interesting mix of genre and non-genre works.)
Finally, a Big THANK YOU! to each and every one of our contributors – each and every single one of you has directly contributed to making Amazing Stories what it is today – as are our tens of thousands of readers and registered members.
Visit our Staff pages – you might be surprised to discover who is shown there!
