Invasion From Venus as Failed 1970s Venus Probe Returns

Cosmos 482 got stranded in an Earth parking orbit, Mitchell told Space.com. Some hardware from that failed flight — a heavy frame of tanks and equipment that was jettisoned — fell into Earth’s atmosphere in rather short order. But some remained aloft.

A failed Russian Venus probe, Cosmos 482, never left Earth orbit and may be crashing back soon.  Owing to its design, large parts of the vehicle are expected to survive reentry.
