At the beginning of this month, we debuted a draft of the Starship Challenger prologue at the TREKonderoga convention in Ticonderoga, New York, to very positive reviews.  That video is currently being finalized for widespread distribution, so check back here for that announcement.  Right now, however, we are going to side-step the Starship Challenger talk to introduce you to one of our other web series currently in development, Assignment: Earth.

On March 29th, 1968, NBC aired the final episode of Star Trek‘s second season, titled “Assignment: Earth,” about interstellar agent Gary Seven and his mission on Earth in the 20th century.  The episode was intended as a backdoor pilot for a proposed spin-off to the Star Trek series.  We intend to pick up where the original series left off.

In our last issue, we mentioned we brought on board William B. Alexander to write the pilot episode for Assignment: Earth. In the episode “Desert Stormcloud,” amid being followed by two strange unknown agents, Seven, with the help of his assistant Roberta Lincoln and “cat” Isis, must intervene in the world’s flirtation with nuclear warfare around the turn of the 21st century, and convince General Norman Schwarzkopf not to begin World War III based on false orders he has been given.

The principal characters have been cast, including Jim Bray’s cat Shadow as Isis, and we’re currently scouting locations for Gary Seven’s office.  As this will be a contemporary piece, set design, props and wardrobe will be less expensive than its 23rd century counterpart, though we still have certain elements that must be fabricated for the show to be consistent with the 1968 episode.

We also have composer Andy Patterson writing an original theme for our web series.  The Brian Tyler title music used in our “Opening Credits” video is a placeholder to give you a sense of the style of the show.  About ten years ago, Andy penned two new versions of the Assignment: Earth theme, and earlier this year, he shared those concepts with us.  His talent and love for this show makes Andy a perfect fit for our team.  You can listen to his previous creations at: https://www.Supervisor194.com

This series is currently in the development stage, and we’ll begin shooting upon completion of the first two episodes of Starship Challenger, which should be early 2016.
