This post is scheduled to go live at Midnight, June 30th.  The Gernsback Science Fiction Writing Contest opens on Submittable at 12:01 on 7/1/15.

We are looking for positively oriented science fiction stories of between 1,000 and 2,000 words length that address the theme – “What will our solar system look like 250 years from now?”

Stories must be original, unpublished tales.  Stories will only be accepted through Submittable and must follow William Shunn’s standard ms formatting.  Files may be RTF, DOC, TXT or DOCX formats.

The contest is limited to the first 100 submissions and will close on July 31st (or when we have received 100 submissions, whichever comes first).

Author names will be redacted prior to read by our team of evaluators.  Our first readers will select 20 stories for further consideration.

Those 20 finalists will be judged by Cat Rambo (who becomes SFWA President on July 1st), Dave Creek (SFWA member, author and editor) and Jack Clemons (SFWA member, author and Amazing Stories contributor).

The judges will select the Top Ten stories and will rank them 1st thru 10th.

First, second and third place finishers will receive prize money for their stories (6 cents per word).

All ten finalists will receive 6 cents per word and will be published on the Amazing Stories website and in an anthology that will follow.

Finalists grant the following rights:  first electronic publication rights; non-exclusive electronic archival rights, non-exclusive anthology rights.
