Launch Pad now Open for Applications

LaunchPadThe 2014 Launch Pad Astronomy Workshop for Writers will be held in Laramie, WY from July 13-20th, 2014.  This will be our 8th year, if I haven’t screwed up my dates.  We were recently awarded a grant from the Space Telescope Science Institute for funding for 2014-2015, which will let us cover local expenses and operate without requiring tuition from participants.

We plan to remain open to applications until March 15, 2014.  We’re not just for hard science fiction writers with stories set in space.  Got a werewolf novel that critically depends on understanding phases of the moon?  Or building a world that needs unusual seasons?  Or writing science-fact featuring astronomy?  You’re also the target audience.

Check out a recent article by a Launch Pad alumnus about the workshop for some idea of what to expect.

This is one of the ways I make my science career synergistic with my fiction writing, and while it’s always a lot of work, I have a great time.  It’s like my own private convention in Laramie with my kind of people.  And we bring astronomy to the public in all the myriad ways the attendees manage.
