TV Review: Bitten

bitten_poster_smallSmallville‘s Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort) has gone and got herself a lead in a new sci-fi show. She always annoyed me a bit in Smallville as she wasn’t very good at hiding her Canadian accent. Not that there’s anything wrong with in, in fact, within the show she was supposed to have taken longer to get to earth, so surely she wouldn’t even have an American or Canadian accent, and would sound more like Jor-El (Terrence Stamp), although I think I recall her father didn’t have an English accent either, neither did Helen Slater the original Supergirl who also played Lara-El in Smallville. But anyway, I’m getting distracted here, so back to the show in question.

Bitten is about the world’s only female werewolf, Elena (Vandervoort) who, years after being bitten, gets a job as a journalist in Toronto (no need to worry about that accent anymore) and is trying her best to keep her secret. When a bunch of bodies turn up, she is forced to confront her past. This series is based on the book series Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong.

These werewolves seem far more organised that those we see in other TV shows, as they take the time to undress before they start changing (they don’t change on command so it’s perfectly timed). But this show still has a low budget feel, which so often happens with Canadian shows. I’m sure many will like this show, but it didn’t really grab me in the first episode. I’d love to know what others thought?
